There’s a tutorial by Lemmemakeit that shows how simple it is to print with a feather. It would be fun to see what other natural elements can be turned into pretty prints!

Look at this gorgeous flower I passed on the street. Doesn’t it look like paper?! It reminds me of the tree-free gift wrap I carry in my store, Soolip, made of recycled cotton rags. I love the texture and had to share it with you all!

I just love this natural arrangement from Jardino’s flickr set. It’s so unusual, yet beautiful!

This beautiful spring weather has put me in such a good mood! With St. Patrick’s day coming up on Wednesday, this weekend is the perfect opportunity to take a hike with the kids and search for some shamrocks. I found this fun Shamrock badge project on Design Sponge by Studio Choo. It’s such a fun and fresh way to wear green this Wednesday. I’m going to brighten up the badge with some fun Kelly Green grosgrain ribbon I have left over. What a lucky find! Click here to see the whole project at Studio Choo.

I have been meaning to comment on the James Cameron’s new film, Avatar, since I saw it the other week. I was pleasantly surprised to find that all the hype is true! Avatar is an imaginative, visually stunning, and spellbinding film. But what I found most striking was not the multimillion dollar visual effects, but rather the heart of the story-a simple reminder that we must respect the earth and one another. Cameron truly has a gift for storytelling. What a beautiful way of driving this simple but important message home. Avatar was breath of fresh air, for the kids and I!

Winter flower in bloom
Just wanted to share this gorgeous photo that my friend Elizabeth Hubbell of Elizabeth Hubbell Studio sent me. While outside on the grayest winter day, she came across this beautiful tree blossom bursting with life. Nature always has a way of surprising the quiet observer. Go take a walk outside, listen, and look. You’ll be amazed by what you find.

I’m always looking for new and artful ways to re-use household items for festive occasions. This holiday season, Jessica Stein, staff writer at the LA Times and author of Re-Bound: Creating Handmade Books From Recycled and Repurposed Materials has some great ideas. Her D-I-Y wrapping paper idea will bring new life to that stack of old magazines and brown paper grocery bags that you’ve stashed away. Plus, it’s a great activity for the kids too (even the older ones can help with the sewing machine portion of the project). With a little left over shoe polish, you can also transform an ordinary brown bag into a faux leather wrap that will give any gift a fresh decorative edge. Check out all her ideas on the LA Times website by clicking here.

I am completely inspired by my dear friend, Elizabeth’s working studio. One can always expect a delightful array of color, something living and either ink and pen, or in this case, water color doodles on her desk. I am a firm believer that if one’s working environment is inspiring, uncluttered and containing things that fuel one’s passion, great things will come. Take a look at Elizabeth’s web site- http://www.elizabethhubbellstudio.com/

The Gift
Stumbled upon these two rocks …… one – quiet, round, at peace, alone, and the other – open and ready to receive. Beauty is in all things.
