As a self proclaimed paperphile, I have a really hard time discarding unused sheets of paper. There are so many ways to reuse them! I keep a scrap paper bin at home that I’m constantly pulling from. But, as these things go, at times that paper bin piles up pretty high. This Recycled Scrap Paper Notebook tutorial that I found on Design Sponge is the perfect way to reuse some of those old paper sheets. We make similar notebooks at my Soolip Tree house studio. These DIY notebooks are so cost effective and useful. They’re great for jotting down grocery lists or as drawing pads for the kids. Check out the entire tutorial here.

I have been meaning to comment on the James Cameron’s new film, Avatar, since I saw it the other week. I was pleasantly surprised to find that all the hype is true! Avatar is an imaginative, visually stunning, and spellbinding film. But what I found most striking was not the multimillion dollar visual effects, but rather the heart of the story-a simple reminder that we must respect the earth and one another. Cameron truly has a gift for storytelling. What a beautiful way of driving this simple but important message home. Avatar was breath of fresh air, for the kids and I!

Happy New Year! Despite having just made it through one of the busiest seasons for my business, I feel calm, energized, and ready to take this year by storm…Doing what you love in business and in life definitely has it’s perks! Thank goodness for that energy, because preparing for the busy wedding season starts NOW. It’s back to business and working towards my resolution to have a more mindful and green 2010.
Resolutions are great to have, but just clutter the mind if your intent and motivation to act on them is missing. So I’m working towards mine by taking the first actionable step of making this year’s “A Soolip Wedding,”a modern bridal event showcasing Los Angeles’ most creative and inspirational wedding resources, more eco-friendly than ever before. My goal is show high-end, high-fashion brides how truly gorgeous it can be to go green on the big day.
Here are some of my favorite tips about how you can easily make your next event more eco-friendly. If you’ve already started calendaring the events you’ll be hosting for the year, I encourage you to consider the tips below:
- See the beauty in nature’s offerings such as twigs, shells, mosses, and stones. By featuring them as floral decor, you are celebrating beauty in all things made simple. You will inspire your guests to do the same in the decor of their own spaces.
- For invitations, use recycled or tree-free papers such as those made of cotton, linen, bamboo, and hemp.
- Whenever possible, buy local and organic food and beverages for your menu. Always investigate a donation plan for any excess food and beverage. There are many organizations that will pick up food donations and deliver it to those who most need it.

A Soolip Wedding will take place Sunday, February 21st at the Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles. If you’re planning a wedding this year, you won’t want to miss it!
