Resolving for a Gorgeous and Green Year of Events – And how you can too!

January 6th, 2010

Happy New Year! Despite having just made it through one of the busiest seasons for my business, I feel calm, energized, and ready to take this year by storm…Doing what you love in business and in life definitely has it’s perks! Thank goodness for that energy, because preparing for the busy wedding season starts NOW. It’s back to business and working towards my resolution to have a more mindful and green 2010.

Resolutions are great to have, but just clutter the mind if your intent and motivation to act on them is missing. So I’m working towards mine by taking the first actionable step of making this year’s “A Soolip Wedding,”a modern bridal event showcasing Los Angeles’ most creative and inspirational wedding resources, more eco-friendly than ever before. My goal is show high-end, high-fashion brides how truly gorgeous it can be to go green on the big day.

Here are some of my favorite tips about how you can easily make your next event more eco-friendly. If you’ve already started calendaring the events you’ll be hosting for the year, I encourage you to consider the tips below:

  • See the beauty in nature’s offerings such as twigs, shells, mosses, and stones. By featuring them as floral decor, you are celebrating beauty in all things made simple. You will inspire your guests to do the same in the decor of their own spaces.
  • For invitations, use recycled or tree-free papers such as those made of cotton, linen, bamboo, and hemp.
  • Whenever  possible, buy local and organic food and beverages for your menu. Always investigate a donation plan for any excess food and beverage. There are many organizations that will pick up food donations and deliver it to those who most need it.

For more green event tips from A Soolip Wedding, click here. And if you’re interested in learning about all the fabulous vendors and designers we have lined up this year, click here to read our latest press release. A Soolip Wedding will take place Sunday, February 21st at the Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles. If you’re planning a wedding this year, you won’t want to miss it!

Holiday Cards for Change

December 22nd, 2009
Celebrity crafted cards for World Child Project

Celebrity crafted cards for World Child Project

Each holiday season, I help my clients create the most unique and impressive holiday cards in tinsel town. I love designing fancy holiday cards from concept to completion.  It’s truly one of my favorite things to do. But in the midst of a recession,  I’ve recently found myself  thinking about how we define holiday giving and asking myself how I could have a more “thoughtful” holiday.  What if a holiday card could do more than bring a smile to the recipient’s face or sit pretty on a mantle? What if a holiday card could really make a change in this world and improve the lives of those less fortunate?

Where there is a will, there is a way. And so, I partnered with an organization that I’ve long been a champion of, the World Child Project to put my idea into action. The World Child Project (WCP) is a non-profit partnership in service of the most vulnerable among us: orphaned and abandoned children in developing countries. We help kids beat poverty and hopelessness and grow into loving, productive leaders who can become agents for change in the communities they
grow up in. This holiday season, we decided to use Soolip holiday cards as a vehicle to give the the gift of a better chance in life for orphaned and abandoned children.

On December 9th, I participated in first World Child Project holiday party in Los Angeles. Over two hundred and fifty guests attended the  holiday fundraiser.  Holiday card-making stations were spread throughout the venue giving guests the opportunity to make cards for children in need. Cards made by celebrity guests, such as Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, and Oliver Stone were then auctioned off at a silent auction.

Together we raised $50,000 for this cause! That’s what I call holiday giving. Despite all the gifts I’ve been wrapping and cards I’ve been making over the last few months, it was working together as a community to make a difference in the lives of others that really put me in the holiday spirit.

Soolip at The Peninsula Beverly Hills

November 28th, 2009

The Art of Gift Wrapping
My favorite time of year has officially arrived! As a gift and gift-wrapping expert, I take special delight in the holidays where every single day between Thanksgiving and New Years brings a new opportunity to spread joy – whether it be through an unexpected holiday card, a fabulous present, or that perfectly wrapped gift. But I also know that my favorite time of the year is also the busiest time of the year. If you’re like me, and have stayed up wrapping gifts way into the wee hours of the holiday morning one-too-many times, then you know exactly what I’m talking about.

This year, I’ve partnered with The Peninsula Beverly Hills to give my fellow Angelenos a break from the all night gift-wrapping bender! I’m excited to announce that starting December 1st, The Peninsula Beverly Hills will launch its first holiday season gift-wrapping partnership with, yours truly, Soolip Paperie and Press. My troop of meticulous gift wrappers will be offering our signature couture gift-wrapping services on-site using distinctive one-of-a-kind papers, elegant ribbons and whimsical, nature-inspired gift-toppers like vintage silk flowers, feathered Chinese birds and fresh foliage such as red holiday berries, laurel and evergreen branches. Best of all, our basic gift wrap will feature our Soolip tree-free paper made in India of re-purposed cotton rags. Richly textured and exquisitely colored, our tree-free paper demonstrates the endless, beautiful possibilities in recycling materials.

If you’re not in the Los Angeles area this holiday season, or are looking for some budget and eco- friendly gift-wrapping ideas, then stay tuned! I’ll be sharing some of my favorite tips and tricks with you in the days to come.
