Toddler Free of Diapers By Using Cotton Diapers

Naomi Aldort

I read your answer here to a question about toilet learning in which you suggested using cloth diapers to help the child learn about body processes. I was curious about this, and although my extended family had always used disposable diapers and my baby was now a toddler, I researched it and decided to give cloth diapers a try. I was so surprised when my child toilet trained herself a few weeks later. I'm sure this doesn't surprise you, but I am grateful to you because I know we'd still be using diapers for a long time if we stayed with the disposables. Next time, we'd start with cloth from the beginning. Thank you.

Dear Parent,

Thank you for sharing your experience. It is so valuable for parents to know that freedom from diapers takes as little as returning back to nature. Even though you didn’t really ask a question so parents can discover how caring for our babies and caring for our planet go so lovingly hand and hand.

We cannot fool nature. When we try, it generally backfires. Indeed, cloth diapers combined with elimination communication results in toddlers free of diaper years ahead of children who use disposables.

When the baby can actually feel the elimination as it occurs and is uncomfortable if not changed promptly, she becomes quickly familiar with her own body. Today there are all in one convenient cloth diapers that are actually easier to handle than disposable. They are gentle on the baby’s skin, gentle on the planet and used for a much shorter duration.

Warmly,  Naomi Aldort,  www.AuthenticParent.com
