Berkshire Evening

This evening peace.
The mountains sit shoulder to shoulder.

Just over mount everett is one pale star and a single small bird flies smoothly down the valley.

The sky is ice-blue the air is still and in the trees unseen birds sing.

In my arms my child my daughter of one week sleeps her small and ancient sleep.
