Cynthia Good Mojab, MS clinical psychology, is a clinical counselor, private researcher, author, educator and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) focusing on issues related to culture, psychology, and the family?particularly as they relate to breastfeeding and the needs of women during their reproductive and mothering years. Since adopting her baby, she is currently on extended maternity leave from her private practice, LifeCircle Counseling and Consulting, LLC (www.lifecircecc.com), where she has offered a blend of psychological and lactation services to women and their health care providers. As one of a small group of mental health care providers in the world who are also IBCLCs, Cynthia has a strong interest in lactational psychology: the junction of the fields of lactation and psychology. She is the founder and moderator of LactPsych, an email discussion group for professionals working in this emerging field. Cynthia is a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, a member of the National Center for Crisis Management, and is Board Certified in Acute Traumatic Stress Management. She sought these credentials because of her concern about the impact of traumatic birth experiences on breastfeeding, mothering, and maternal and child well-being. She is a nationally recognized speaker, is an award-winning researcher whose multicultural work was recognized in 1995 by the American Psychological Foundation, and served as Research Associate in the Publications Department of La Leche League International for several years. Cynthia was a member of the La Leche League International Editorial Review Team for The Breastfeeding Answer Book (3rd edition). She is co-author of Breastfeeding at a Glance: Facts, Figures and Trivia About Lactation (Platypus Media 2001), an encyclopedic booklet addressing myths and facts, legislation, breastfeeding's impact on health, and more. She authored the "Breastfeeding Resource List," a guide to publications, multimedia, websites, and organizations, in Breastfeeding Annual International 2001 (Platypus Media 2001). Cynthia's article, "Sunlight Deficiency: A Review of the Literature," appears in the March-April 2003 issue of Mothering. These and other publications can be accessed from her website, Ammawell, which provides breastfeeding and parenting information. While on maternity leave, she is finding moments to work on writing a book about the management of breastfeeding and lactation after pregnancy loss and infant death. Cynthia lives in Oregon with her husband and their two daughters. |
