Elizabeth Hormann, Ed.M, IBCLC is a counselor, writer/editor/translator, educator and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) focusing on family life issues from bonding to letting-go.
Breastfeeding
A La Leche League Leader since the birth of her second child, Elizabeth began to specialize in relactation and adoptive breastfeeding after she breastfed an adopted baby. She has published on this topic in both professional and lay publications, most recently in Breastfeeding Abstracts. Her booklet for mothers, "Breastfeeding an Adopted Baby and Relactation" has recently been published by La Leche League International.

In her 20 years as an IBCLC, Elizabeth has run lactation management courses in Africa, the Middle East and both Eastern and Western Europe. She has been involved with the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative since its inception in 1992, assessing hospitals, training new assessors in 17 countries and producing materials in both English and German. She is a lecturer for the European Lactation Institute and directs several short (36 hour) courses a year in Germany. Her books on breastfeeding have been published in German, Hungarian, Italian and Russian.
Counseling
Elizabeth worked as a therapist for many years in Boston providing a maternal and child home visiting service for Medicaid recipients. Currently she is the on-call occupational counselor for social work and health care staff of the British Army in Germany and has a small private practice in Cologne. Grief has been a particular focus of her work in this area since the early 1980's. She has written a number of articles on loss for a variety of publications including Mothering. She is a member of the Human Givens Institute (UK) of the VOVK - Vereiniging Ouders Van Eeen Vormoord Kind (Association of Parents of Murdered Children) in the Netherlands and a founding member of Murder Victims' Families for Human Rights (US/international).
Elizabeth has five children and five grandchildren...a sixth one is due in summer 2007. She lives in Cologne, Germany down the street from her daughter and two grandchildren.
