Marcy Axness, PhD, is the founder of Quantum Parenting [1], a tapestry of scientific and spiritual principles offering parents simple guidelines for nurturing their child's healthiest development from preconception/pre-adoption, while cultivating more joy in parenting and in life. Marcy is a popular speaker about the complex tapestry of attachment, a leading authority on prenatal and perinatal development, and one of the world's few experts on the primal issues in adoption. She teaches at Santa Barbara Graduate Institute, and has a private practice in the Los Angeles area, counseling parents and--her favorite clients--pre-parents. She is the author of the upcoming book Raising Generation PAX: A Science of Peace and Possibility [2]. But she considers her most important credential to be that she has birthed two babies and has parented two teens. And she's still smiling.
Dr. Axness is featured along with such renowned early development experts as Bruce Perry and Daniel Siegel in a recent documentary about the nature and importance of the attachment relationship between parents and their infant before and after birth, Trauma, Brain and Relationship: Helping Children Heal. (View clip. [3]) And she is regular columist for Los Angeles' longest-running parenting publication, the Wet Set Gazete, offering progressive insights on topics ranging from Baby Einstein to baby blues, from breastfeeding ambivalence to attention deficit. These and other articles can be found in her Quantum Parenting collection [4]. Dr. Axness' Adoption Insight series of booklets and audio recordings [5] are also available on her website.
Her private counseling practice specializes in adoption, pregnancy psychology, mind-body fertility, and very early parenting. (She is an accredited practioner of Niravi Payne's Whole Person Fertility Program.) Weaving together scientific findings and spiritual principles into her Quantum Parenting approach, she assists clients in nurturing their children's healthiest development beginning pre-conception / pre-adoption, and in tending to their own inner development as parents. Reach her via her website at www.QuantumParenting.com [1].
Other accomplishments aside, Marcy views as her most impressive credential that she is the mother of two thriving, Waldorf-educated teenagers, 16 and 19, and they are all on excellent speaking terms and actually enjoy each other's company!
