We read Edgar Allen Poe by candelight, with interruptions by one trick-or-treater (which thrilled us—one more than we’ve gotten in past years) and  our neighbor, dressed as a satyr, horned and bare-chested with hairy goat-leg pants (on his way to a party, checking to make sure his bare belly was “not too much?”). Watched some “scary” old stuff on Youtube, thoroughly enjoying “Teenagers from Outer Space” and “The Cobweb Hotel.”

All in all, a frightfully lovely night.

So, since I don’t really sew and didn’t want the mess of papier maché, Reeve was transformed into a poster paper-clad version of that supersonic flying machine. Photo at right.

That Halloween night, he flew beautifully from house to house, trick or treating with the kids from the apartment downstairs. . . until it began to rain—thereby ending any possibility of transcontinental flight.
