a little Halloween cheer

punkinQuiet Halloween this year. Tim was sick, so we lay low, stayed in, carved a tiny ornamental pumpkin into a cheery pumpkin face (which, after an hour, surprisingly—but appropriately—started drooling white wax).

We read Edgar Allen Poe by candelight, with interruptions by one trick-or-treater (which thrilled us—one more than we’ve gotten in past years) and  our neighbor, dressed as a satyr, horned and bare-chested with hairy goat-leg pants (on his way to a party, checking to make sure his bare belly was “not too much?”). Watched some “scary” old stuff on Youtube, thoroughly enjoying “Teenagers from Outer Space” and “The Cobweb Hotel.”

All in all, a frightfully lovely night.

You lucked out. That sounds fun. Next year you can come answer the door at my house if you want trick or treaters–we were torn between trick or treating and giving out candy. But why would you want to improve on that night? Although I am a bit squicked out by the idea of a hairy satyr neighbor flashing tum.

Ah, but when your hairy satyr neighbor is the fabulous Buddy Love, it’s much less squicky . . .
