Provide Wholesome Foods:
Offering healthy foods is one of the most important ways to keep your little ones going strong.
Breakfast doesn’t have to be boxed cereal when you take some time to prepare simple solutions the day before. Make your own wholesome granola, whip up some homemade muffins, or blend some green smoothies for breakfast on the run.
If your school is not committed to providing healthy options for lunch and snack time you are better off sending a homemade lunch. Build your own healthy lunch menu with help from the kids, or let them fill bento boxes with a variety of fresh organic fruits, veggies, healthy proteins and whole grain breads.
It can be a very real challenge to provide healthy dinners when the school day can be so hectic. Try preparing wholesome meals on weekends and other free moments and storing for use when you are too busy to cook. When you need to serve packaged foods or take out, look for options that contain as many fresh, natural ingredients as possible.
Get Active!
Many children do not get enough time for active play during the day. Helping your kids develop a love for movement will keep them feeling great.
Bike riding, yoga, and practicing a favorite sport are great options--as are less obvious activities such as gardening, dancing, building sand castles, or nature hikes.
Reduce screen time and encourage active play instead. Get outdoors as often as you can, even in the winter, and let then kids run around.
Model an active lifestyle by showing your kids how fun it is to move around, try new things with their bodies, and explore nature.
Reduce Stress:
Reducing stress in your child’s life is a great way to help them stay healthy and motivated.
While the school year can be very busy, it is important to find time to dive into the things your child loves to keep them feeling positive. Make sure little ones have enough time to get creative, play freely, and spend with mom and dad. For older children, unstructured time to explore passions should be a part of every day.
It is also important that each child has the opportunity to express their concerns in a supportive and understanding environment to prevent little issues from turning into big problems. Talk to your kids and listen to what they have to say.
To help your kids feel more balanced, let them express themselves and get out strong emotions however they feel comfortable. Singing, expressive dance, playing, acting and art are wonderful ways to relieve stress and reconnect with one’s self and family.
