A- did you place the frontier order? I completely forgot about it and I lost my list of things I wanted and it takes forever to go through that list. Are you ordering every month? We'll catch the next one.
J- I'm sorry you are having trouble again . I hope things get better when Ms V gets back. Has he worked with Ms Grace? Harmony said she was doing great things there, and the web site said she does therapeutic work with the ESE students.

He hasn't worked with Ms. Grace this year but last year she was his asst teacher for a while before he got moved. I'll ask about it because we really like her. Last I heard she was still a teacher for 2nd graders. We have a meeting Thurs and Ms. Jennifer has some ideas that may help. She's also investigating other schools with smaller classrooms. I'm really nervous about having to switch him and start over again, he does not do well with change. I hope it all works out and he gets to stay.
ETA: A, I completely forgot about Frontier too. I'm sorry.

Hey everyone,
We're still not up to $250 on Frontier... Maybe we should just make it a rolling thing, with no deadline? And if you are thinking of ordering, PM or email me your list. None of us who's ordered is in a hurry, except maybe one person and I'll see her tomorrow to ask.

J, I'm sorry your ds is having trouble. That is very stressful.
I like a lot of things about the school, and truthfully without this school we would be homeschooling (and still might), but some things bother me. On the other hand, this *is* our first foray into any kind of public school, so I am not so sure what the standards are/should be, IYKWIM, in terms of flexibility, etc.
But, hugs to you and your ds.
I ended up ebaying the shoes for almost what I paid (less $5, which is way less than I'd have spent in gas to return them) so that's it. I am sorry for dd because she loves them, but I can't justify the expense for a pair of shoes she'll wear twice or once a week. I'll try and go back myself, now that I know her size, and see if I can find something that doesn't light up.
I'm quite happy to have found the LLL group here! Actually I've been a leader for about 7.5 years, since my oldest was a toddler. I just haven't been all that active for a few years, since the group where we lived in NY wasn't nearby and I started working when we were there. Now, I'm home and able to be involved, so it's very nice.
Have all the kids home sick today and dd1 wants help with a puzzle (so NOT my strength...I don't see things spatially at ALL) so I am signing off for a while. Enjoy the gorgeous day!
If anyone wants to take a road trip (ha!) there's a great women's race in St. Pete this weekend...I am doing the Women's Half Marathon and it should be really fun.

Thanks Nica. I'm glad you were able to sell the shoes. I know IVMS doesn't allow any logos at all. DS had an old navy jacket last year and that wasn't allowed on cold days which was a bummer because his IVMS logo jacket was stolen and so was the replacement. We're on IVMS jacket #3 this year. : Have fun with your puzzle and good luck with the half marathon this weekend. How impressive! I can't even run a mile :

Oh gosh, J, what a pain WRT the jackets.
G's teacher (LE13) hasn't given her any kind of hard time about her sweatshirt jacket she's worn, it's light blue and says Martha's Vineyard on it. For that matter, I haven't been chastised about food choices (heating things up, granola bars, etc.) either by her.
S's teacher (LE1) seems to be much more a stickler for the rules (this was the one re: the light up shoes) and although she hasn't said anything yet about S's sweatshirt jacket (one is plain white, and one is navy with a MV on the left side) she has sent home notes about no granola bars etc. (really? even the ones from Whole Foods that yes, have chocolate chips but are pretty healthy otherwise etc.). Sigh. I understand the need for these rules (no lunchables, etc.) but a little tiny bit of a treat within something reasonably healthy (made from whole grains, no HFCS, etc.) doesn't seem so out of bounds .
On the other hand, I am getting a free Montessori education, and it seems to be "real" Montessori, esp. in LE1. So I shouldn't complain, right?!

It is weird how some teachers are particular about lunches. Last year DS started in room 8 and they were particular about granola bars but I made a stink. They were organic granola bars and when they went on sale I bought like 8 boxes for lunches. I've never heard of "no granola bars" anywhere else so I found it silly. Then he moved to rm 1 and he said his friends were bringing fruit rolls ups with lickable tattoos : Talk about one extreme to the other! We never had a hard time in rm 1 about food, but the main teacher was a different teacher. They even suggested I bring a cake for his birthday celebration (which I did).

A- so sorry about the order! It turns out we can't do it right now. Maybe next week if you still haven't ordered.
J- ugh. I feel so bad for A. Have you looked into the charter school up the road from you? I know they are pretty hardcore academic, but maybe the classes are smaller. Is that an option for you guys? Do you still have that scholarship? What about Laurel Oaks?
Nicka- I hope to make it up to a meeting sometime soon. I haven't been to a LLL meeting in over 4 years. The group I went to in Miami was fabulous! I actually have a friend here in PC who is a leader from CT. She's a snowbird.
And the granola bar thing is weird, LOL. Packing a lunch for kids is not easy!

The problem with charters is that they don't offer all of the same special services that they regular public schools offer so they tend to push the special needs kids back to the districted school. That is what we are dealing with now. They rarely have small classrooms for the SN kids like the non-charters do. A's ESE called me to let me know she has one more idea, it is a sort of reward chart that rewards him with his nintendo DS. I think it might help. If not we'll look into schools with smaller classes and his ESE is going to help. I love her and I don't want to leave the school because she's so great.
