Should I Correct My Child's Speech?

Naomi Aldort

Should I correct my 4-year-old son's grammar when he speaks? An example is, "Her is going to the store." Or should I just let him learn by hearing it said the correct way?

Dear Parent,

It is best to allow your child to figure language out on his own. He will make all the “corrections” in time. The process of discovering and adjusting his speaking is crucial to brain development and self-esteem.

In addition, correcting anything a child does harms parent child relationship.

Thank you for being sensitive to your child’s strive for self-reliance.

Warmly, Naomi Aldort, http://authenticparent.com/
