A good morning.
May 11th, 20109:15 am.
This morning, so far, is perfect! I woke up before the alarm. Nathaniel climbed in bed with me to cuddle. We got to talk about how it’s never okay to pee in the sandbox at school *eyeroll* since I found out that he and his friend did that recently. Not having to wake him up is always a treat. He doesn’t like to emerge from sleep unless it’s his decision.
Honorée put together a mini Ravensberger 3-d globe puzzle while she had her cereal. She was super psyched that I brought home Bink’d temporary tattoo “earrings” since she really wants to get her ears pierced but we want her to wait until her 9th birthday. I come from a long line of women with very intolerant earlobes–I tried to get mine pierced 2x but they always got infected and closed up at the earliest opportunity.
Although we usually go barreling out of the house at the last possible minute, this morning we had enough time to read a chapter of The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton before we left for school. Time was on our side.

My boy
May 10th, 2010He was just telling us that he’s lived for 30,000 years, and he has 100 jobs.

It’s so hard to find good boys’ clothes for grade-schoolers. I love that (Olive Juice) vest and his skinny (Polarn O. Pyret) jeans!

The Latest Cloth Diaper Giveaway: Knickernappies!
May 10th, 2010Good morning, mamas. Wait, it’s 1pm. I am not surprised, it’s been that kind of a Monday! We spent Mother’s Day in a baseball stadium in the hot sun. The Albuquerque team won. Mind you, I’m not a sports person per se. But it was just right–the stadium wasn’t too big, or too dinky. A strapping Albuquerque Isotope baseball player handed me a red carnation, because I was a mommy. *grin* It’s hard not to get a kick out of that.
There was a playground on the premises. I had a terrific hot dog loaded with sauerkraut, ketchup, mustard, relish, and some sliced jalapeno. The kids had lots of fun running up and down the aisles, once we relocated to an empty seating area–and they made insty friends with some other kids. (Laura got Nathaniel one of those big silly foam pointing fingers, and she gave Honorée a pink, purple, flowery Isotopes baseball hat–uber-femmy!)
But given that the game was four hours long, and it was rather hot and sunny, I’m a little behind. Thinking it’s still morning and all. But that will not stop me from posting the next round of sweet giveaways.
Knickernappies.
ONE 2G size small Celery pocket diaper with snaps, plus a small LoopyDo 2G prewashed insert, a fleece liner, and a Turquoise changing pad.

and
ONE 2G size medium Turquoise pocked diaper with snaps, plus a medium LoopyDo 2G prewashed insert, a fleece liner, and a Celery changing pad.

Here’s a diagram that shows the intricacies of KnickerNappies’ design…

Please enter to win by leaving a comment letting me know of your preference of size small or medium. And let me know how your Mother’s Day went! I’ve had bummer ones, but yesterday was a total blast.

Giveaway: Super-Groovy Diaper Bag from Kushies!
May 7th, 2010Did I say diaper bag? That phrase still summons the unattractive, insulated vinyl sack I got as a promotion when I was pregnant with my first baby. It had *duckies* and *bunnies* on it, and it was totally pastel. Blech.
And then it all…shifted. Bags got cute. Someone up there realized that pregnancy hormones did a heck of a lot, but they didn’t change grown women into children with a thing for baby farm animals.
My latest favorite mama satchel is the Kushies Whimsy bag. Especially because it just happens to be a diaper bag–and it will serve as a cute tote way after that babe is out of diapers.
Regard.

It comes with a changing pad:

Squee.
If that’s not your style (it’s obviously mine) they have also come out with this number, the Boho:

This giveaway is just for the Whimsy, so if you’re mad about the Boho, all I can offer is a discount code (see below). In order to enter the drawing, please leave a comment below. And if you feel so inspired, please share a little about what you look for in a diaper bag or any other splurge-y, fun stylish acquisition…and it doesn’t need to be spendy at all. It could be a lipstick, an essential oil, a pair of Danskos…
One of my favorite post-baby purchases was a cool $2 vintage baby doll nightie that I found at a Brooklyn thrift store. It was really easy to nurse in it at night, and when I wore it around the house (not just in the mornings, mind you), I felt kind of like Ann-Margret. And that…was priceless.

PS: *Enjoy this 10% discount code on Kushies products for A la Mama readers: Mothering2010 at www.kushiesonline.com.*
