I’d have my needles at the ready. Unfortunately, I’m a lefty (harder to follow knitting instrux) and I’ve tried to learn how to knit about six times with dismal results. The new book Fairy Tale Knits (Wiley, by Alison Stewart-Guinee) inspires me so much, though, that if I were given the chance to sit down with a really patient and good teacher, I think I would give it another try. Check out these designs! In the meantime, I’m sending a copy of the book to my mom, because she has mad skilz in this department.

This week, my son and daughter went back to school. Nathaniel survived (and thrived during) his first day of kindergarten and my daughter began second grade. Blazing hot Southwest days are getting beaten down by welcome doses of chilly breezes and rain. And before us: Labor Day Weekend. Here’s my paean to the Summer of 2009:
In July, my kids spontaneously decided to create ice sculptures this summer by filling different cups and bowls with water and freezing them. Then they stacked the unmolded ice and asked me to “take pictures!” “Isn’t it SO beautiful, mommy?”
Yes.
