Feeding Your Face

Here’s something you can do for yourself at home that is easy and leaves your skin feeling like silk. It also uses ingredients that you’re likely to have in your own kitchen. Purchase some powdered cosmetic clay (French green, red, or white) to use in this recipe. You can find it at your natural foods store.

Using a clean washcloth, clean your face well with a non-soap facial cleanser and warm water. Rinse your face with cool water and pat dry.

Boil a deep pot of water on the stove. When it comes to a boil, remove it to a table and set it on a hot pad. If you’d like, add 1 or 2 drops of lavender or rose essential oil, or sprinkle in a handful of dried rose petals. Let the water cool until you can comfortably hold your face over the pot, forming a tent with a large towel

Remain as long as it you’re comfortable, taking breaks if needed. The steam will open and cleanse your pores as well as moisturize your tissues. When the water cools completely, pat your face dry with a clean towel.

Mix 1 to 2 tablespoons of cosmetic clay with enough water or egg white to make a paste.

Apply the paste to your face. Sit comfortably with your feet up for at least 10 minutes. If you’d like, sip a cool glass of water with lemon. When the mask feels dry and tight, , rinse it off with warm water and a washcloth. Follow up with a cool water rinse and pat dry.

Combine 2 tablespoons plain yogurt and 1 tablespoon honey. Apply the mixture to your face for 10 to 20 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water and a washcloth, followed by a cool rinse. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel.
